History of Grama Panchayat
Anakkara Grama Panchayat is located in Thrithala Block of Ottapalam Taluk of Palakkad District. Anakkara Panchayat has an area of 20.95 sq km. The boundaries of this panchayat are Bharathapuzha on the north, Kappur and Pattithara Panchayats on the south, Bharathapuzha and Malappuram District on the west and Pattithara Panchayat on the east. This is the area where the Panniyoor Temple, which was the capital of Panniyoor village, one of the 64 Brahmin villages of Kerala, which is related to the history of Kerala, is located. Since ancient times, this village has occupied a significant place in the socio-cultural scene of Kerala. Ulloor's Kerala Literary History clearly mentions Panniyoor village and its socio-cultural contributions. The monasteries that taught all 3 Vedas existed in connection with the Panniyoor temple at that time. This village played an important role in selecting and appointing the Perumakkans for the Kerala government. It is believed that a tributary of the Perar from Cuddalore flowed along the north side of the Panniyoor temple and joined the Perar again near the Thurayattin hill and later went under the sea. The deity of the famous Panniyoor temple here is the Yaga Deity Sree Bhuvaraham. This is the only temple in Kerala with this deity. It is special that the rust-free chisel and the black stone-carved Muzhakol, believed to belong to Perumthachan, are still here. The origin of the Thaikattu Moos, one of the most important Ashtavaidyans, is also in the Mundrakode region, which is adjacent to Panniyoor. The Palakkad-Beypur road built by Tipu Sultan passes through this bank of the Perar, where the hooves of many horses and chariots are heard. The multi-faceted talent M.T. Vasudevan Nair, who received the Jnanpith award, was born and raised in Cuddalore in this panchayat. World-famous dancer and choreographer Mrinalini Sarabhai and Mallika Sarabhai, who gained world attention through the presentation of dance forms that gave importance to national integration, are also family members in the north of Anakkara. Another talent born and raised on this bank of the Nila is the famous painter Achuthan Cuddalore.
